Brazil Women’s Marta stuns in 6th Olympics.

Marta, the all-time top scorer for Brazil women’s football will compete in the 2024 Olympics for the sixth time. Marking her final retirement from international football this year.

That’s why head coach Artur Elias didn’t hesitate to choose Marta to help him hunt for gold in Paris later this month. 

“She’s still playing well and should be in the Olympic squad.” Arthur’s statement 

“It’s my challenge to find a way to use her to her full potential while also knowing that she can win gold with everyone.” 

Marta currently plays for Orlando Pride in the National Women’s Soccer League in the United States. She has also participated in six Women’s World Cups, most recently in 2023 in Australia and New Zealand, the co-hosts. But Brazil failed to advance to the knockout round.

In the Olympics, she won two silver medals: in 2004 in Athens, Greece, and in 2008 in Beijing, China, where she lost to the United States in the final. 

Her tally of 17 goals in 23 World Cup finals is still the all-time record for both men’s and women’s football. And her experience in six World Cup tournaments is also remarkable.
